October 1999 Here is the wood from my kit straight out of the box.
October 1999 We installed a heater in my shop so that I could use epoxy in the cold winter months to come. the epoxy needs to be warm in order to cure in under a year.
October 1999 Blueprints of my kayak.
October 1999 The MAS Epoxy system that is included in CLC Kits.
October 1999 Here is the boat I made in High School. It's a 14 foot round bottom boat. Students can take an elective where everyone makes their own to keep. They don't use the excellent quality materials that you find in CLC kits however.
October 1999 Gluing the precut scarf joints together with epoxy. We used weights(lead blocks, bags of lead shot, other heavy items) and staples to hold them in place.
October 1999 When done with epoxy brush and/or cup, don't throw it away! Leave it on your work bench and the next day, check to see if it is hard. If it's not, you know you're in trouble.
October 1999 A handy little block my grandfather thought up. Sheer clamps(nailing strips) are glued 1/4 " higher than the edge of the side panel. This lets you get it lined up quick and easy.
October 1999 The block again, see how much easier this is than using a ruler?
October 1999 Squeezing the sheer clamp to see if a clamp is needed. If epoxy oozes out with a squeeze, another clamp is needed.
October 1999 The instructions say you can do this project with 15 clamps. They put the two panels back to back, but we liked doing it this way so the two panels didn't get glued together.
October 1999 Clamps, clamps and some more clamps.
October 1999 Clampity clamp clamp clamp
October 1999 The more clamps the merrier!
October 1999 clamp (klâmp) n. A device used to fasten or grip things.
October 1999 Okay, now we're just being silly.
